I needed some help. I needed it to solve both acute problems and one chronic one.
I started out getting the help I needed by attacking an acute problem: generating immediate income.
I accidentally found the answer to both, by serendipitously choosing an incredible client to help with HIS similar problems.
I Met With Mike Romano of Maximum Results Fitness
And in searching for a paycheck, I instead found a potential gold mine.
The back story: I’ve been sitting on this system which cost me $4 grand.
It is actually the third in a series I’d purchased over the past two years, in an attempt to master Facebook Ads marketing.
(Even if you have no interest in that activity, read on for the real lesson buried within.)
I was about to retire that system, as I had no way to afford its deployment.
I also was in no mood to go out and find clients to then use it as designed.
Part chicken shit. Part “the eternal muddiness” that often clouds my ability to decide a way forward. On anything.
Then Mike Texted Me Out Of The Blue
We’ve been friends for a couple years now, ever since I forcefully injected myself into a business conversation he was having with a friend at the gym one night.
We had some long talks about what he could do to improve his website and marketing as a personal trainer.
He was rebuilding www.MaximumResultsFit.com and struggling with some of the tech.
I gladly told him what I knew and what I’d experienced, as I enjoy that sort of thing. But made clear that I no longer built sites for people.
He was cool with that and it cemented our friendship.
And after a handful of these sessions, we never really saw each other that much over the next many months.
(Gold star for anyone who saw THAT segue coming!) LOL
The show, Alter Boy, is a work in progress, (and I had a blast on the set) but not the main point of this story.
About a month or so after the shoot, I got Mike’s text.
Just staying in touch, kind of a thing.
That’s When A Switch Went Off In My Head
And I’d bet he’d let me work with him in a non-traditional fashion that allowed me to build and improve the thing, without the pressures of a normal business arrangement.”
Well, not only did he see the value, he saw the bigger picture of how we might scale this thing as partners, rather than limit it to specifically his business alone.
Secret: I saw this too, but did not mention it at all. He got to that point on his own, which both floored me and relieved me.
Now we’re partners (and even better friends!)
I have a lot to say about the meat of this story, particularly that bit about the friendship.
And there are a ton of lessons buried within the process we’ve been enjoying this past month.
But for now, I just want you guys to see that you don’t want to limit your perspective when looking to improve your life.
Maybe, due to many reasons, you have to focus on what’s right in front of your face just to survive the next few moments or immediate future.
I get that. Been there about 653 times myself.
But what I’m saying is, try to stay aware of the knowledge base you’re starting to build and see how it might apply to solving even larger issues than first imagined.
If you use the systems in my site, this will be a natural offshoot of all your efforts, regardless of why you ever started listening to me in the first place.
