I learned that to even survive – when I was at my weakest, my smallest, my most terrified, my most insane – I had to accept responsibility to effect change in the areas which were all mine, regardless of how impossible that seemed at the time.
As I rebuilt my life and its sphere of influence increased, my list of responsibilities kept pace with that growth.
Bigger and more complex problems came at me and still do – all the time! Many of them are painful or overwhelming. At least when they’re fresh.
But the sad truth I learned was…
…my problems just won’t go away without my personal involvement!
I cannot bargain with anyone to relieve myself of some of them. No one is going to arrive in the nick of time to bail me out every time I wish they would.
My problems will only get stronger if I don’t relax my mind and come up with a plan, steel myself for the particularly hairier parts, endure the necessary sacrifices, and always stay aware that the unavoidable victory will be made all the sweeter the bigger the battle.
You can wallow, complain and cast blame. I still do every now and then. It’s natural and it feels awesome to pity and push off and hope beyond hope for a dream escape.
But then I quickly come to grips with the fact that this spike covered stink baby is all mine and I shall raise it right.
I shall cultivate it, talk to it, prune it, and reshape it into a beautiful creation befitting the pain of its original source.
Meaning: I shall take full responsibility for all aspects of my life
Listen, no one can live your life for you. You can get help for a long time, be supported by others and by institutions and sometimes this is necessary and unavoidable.
But if it’s your whole plan, and you always find anyone else but you to blame when things go wrong…well, no amount of help from me is going to get you to your next level of achievement.
But if you’re aware that you’ve been hamstringing yourself and would like guidance on how to get a handle on your situation, take a new approach on things, then I’m your man.
If you know the problem is YOU (and that is the problem for all of us) then I know how to fix that problem.
But you gotta want it and you gotta be willing to follow directions and put in the work.
I speak from experience and I look forward to sharing that experience with you!
