Being the best is a state of mind that expresses itself in your physical reality.
You have to believe it before you see proof of it.
Once you have it, you must maintain the title for as long as you need to in order to accomplish your main goal.
The Marines have a heritage of being the best going back close to three centuries now.
So where does that leave one if you’re not part of this organization? That’s a good question but not the perfect one to ask.
The question is, “How do I make myself the perceived best in my field?”
You have faith that one such as myself, who knows what being the best (at something) looks like, is helping you attain that same status. Once you learn how to be the best at one task, you have the basic ground rules in place to duplicate it elsewhere.
And the most important rule is understanding that you must believe it possible in your mind before seeing the proof with your eyes.
That’s the definition of faith, actually
Being the best will require you to become a leader in your field, something I wrote about earlier. But don’t get worried about this whole “best” status and what you think that might require of you.
Some gurus out there will tell you to be the complete and final word on whatever it is that you do. And I agree with them, but there are flavors to this that might better suit your aspirations, not to mention your understanding of what being the best means.
On the one hand, you can simply strive to be the number one, most-recognized figure in whatever field you’ve chosen to endorse, which is reasonable and worth pursuing.
On the other hand, there may be people who already do what you do, or what you want to do, who are leagues ahead of you in experience, reach, and success and you just can’t see yourself going head to head with them.
This may be prudent in some cases. Maybe you really can’t compete with these folks. That’s not to say you shouldn’t try or that you haven’t figured out how to build a better mousetrap than they have.
But before you go blazing your way to the head of the class, there’s an intermediate step you might want to consider, a step that would keep your stress and heartburn levels to a minimum. And it might end up being right where you stay.
In the Marines, when a job was too complex at the level it began, it got booted down the line to the shop that had the tools and resources necessary to complete the repair. When your level couldn’t handle it, the paper would get stamped “BCM” – Beyond Capable Maintenance, and the next guys took a whack at it with the more complex systems.
In your case, this would mean learning all there is to know about your niche to become the trusted advisor to others coming up the line. You become known as the person who can RECOMMEND the best resource for what your clients need, even though it’s another person’s website or company.
You don’t have to lose sleep over becoming “The Best” if you don’t want!
Just become the one who knows where to safely send those who’ve come to trust you. Your reputation is based on your advice in that fashion.
Takes a load off your mind, doesn’t it?
I struggled with this myself for years. Then someone clued me in to this trusted resource approach and I got my momentum back.
I will help you with the things I do best:
- sorting out your information
- finding your “why”
- calming your fears
- discovering your optimal leading style
- inspiring you to push onward
- getting your head and heart into the game of playing big
- helping you develop written content
- understanding web design
- developing your blog
- defining your niche
- locating your strengths
- detailing your digital product line
- and more
But when it comes to taking your mission to the Big Time, there are others I recommend to lead you to that place, who will do a far better job of it than I.
And sure, I get something for that! That’s the point in this type of work. It’s part of how I earn and so shall you if you choose this path. It’s called affiliate sales or sometimes takes the form of joint ventures.
But I found as I worked with some of these people that there was a gap in comprehension development that kept me from fully profiting from their advice. I had to somehow close this gap to even begin comfortably using what they taught me.
Now I am the best at closing that gap
Once closed, you’ll take your platform to the ones who can help you go nova with income and publicity. I do what those people teach me but I prefer to not teach it myself. I like focusing on that gap.
You can trust me do do my best to help you overcome your problems and create cohesive plans from your chaos. It matters to me that you know this. It will be the same for you as your company gets underway and people come looking to you for advice.
